The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and the next chapter officially in the works—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner Know the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
