The Renowned Musician Encourages Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it fails to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The single was laid down after a major charity concert held in September. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of producers and composers. The single features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the project have stated that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a figure commented. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is primarily raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The track is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
