Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”
He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
