Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side just seven months following leading derogatory taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. His lengthy time at Elland Road was ended amicably in August.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting abusive songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the former England player will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Previous Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager
Both men had history before Leeds won promotion to the Premier League last season and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All seems has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his career.
The Wilder chant went viral in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
