The British tennis star earned the most important victory of his professional journey by coming back from a early deficit to overcome world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Although he had earlier defeated Alcaraz on two separate matches, this victory represents Norrie's initial win over a sitting world top-ranked player.

"Enormous. Extremely important for me," said Norrie, who is now the latest English competitor in history to beat a global number one. "Returning from a physical setback last year, I fell in the initial match of qualies here. I just aimed to enjoy my performance in the closing months of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the biggest win of my tennis journey, my initial victory over the global number one and probably the most confident athlete in the world right now."

The British player, seeded 31st globally, also halted Alcaraz's supreme streak of nine consecutive finals and 17 successive elite tournament victories, which was the top run of outcomes in the Spanish star's early professional path.

Alcaraz seemed to be progressing easily to success at the start as he sailed in the opening set. Yet, Norrie slowly worked himself back into the game by serving with sharper placement and dragging the Spanish opponent into extended, grueling rallies.
