American prosecutors have charged a Louisiana resident of taking part in the 7 October raid by the militant faction on Israeli soil, according to recently revealed court documents.

Mahmoud Amin Ya'qub al-Muhtadi, thirty-three, reportedly equipped him and became part of a militia unit that fought alongside Hamas in the 2023's attack that claimed the lives of 1,195 Israeli citizens, triggering 24 months of conflict that killed thousands more.

A year following the attack, he supposedly journeyed to the United States on a fake entry permit and obtained status as a long-term resident.

Mr al-Muhtadi was charged with providing, attempting to provide or conspiring to provide assistance to a foreign terrorist organization and the deception and improper use of a visa or additional papers.

Reported Role with Militant Faction

The defendant was allegedly an operative of the NRB, the armed branch of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, as stated in the legal filing brought by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

He is accused of organizing a "group of armed fighters" to cross into Israel after hearing about the attack and asked one man to "carry the rifles", court documents show.

The suspect sent communications instructing other persons to provide a bulletproof vest for another man and rounds, prosecutors allege.

A short time after the October 7 assault started, his mobile device pinged a cell tower close to Kibbutz Kfar Aza, the sight of a deadly event, the documents stated.

Judicial Process and Defense

The complaint said that the accused rejected ever having been involved in acts of terror on his American visa application.

Upon coming to the United States, he resided in a few of locations before settling in the Louisiana city, where he worked in a nearby restaurant.

He was arrested on the past Thursday, the Justice Department announced.

In a hearing in Louisiana on the following day, he was asked if he understood the charges against him, an translator rendered his response as "affirmative, but there are a lot of points stated here that are so incorrect, I'm innocent", according to reports.

The documents do not accuse the defendant of particular crimes or homicides. US attorneys have in the past indicted senior members of the group with the fatalities of American citizens on 7 October.
