Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup With the Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial World Series following the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, the nation," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now hit twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third in history behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I want up in that spot besides Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, are still the one club that has never reached in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance in the campaign.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he added.
Toronto secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
