Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
